British Railways
I am building a number of models based on British Railways prototypes from the early 1960's. These are primarily diesel and electric locomotives, multiple units, coaching stock and freight wagons. I am currently constructing a layout featuring both British Railways and London Transport. As well as the third and fourth rail required for the Underground, overhead catenary will feature on the BR section. The AL6 is already complete and there are currently an AM4 and an AM10 EMU under construction. These will be followed by an AL1 and AL5 when available. As the layout is loosely based around the Western and London Midland Regions, say around the Old Oak/Willesden area, a number of WR locomotives will also feature. The Class 35 Hymek is already complete as is a Ex-LMS Jackshaft Shunter, Swindon Class 14, British Thomson Houston Class 15, North British Class 16, North British Class 22, English Electric Class 23 'Baby Deltic', ex-LMS 10000 and a North British Class 41 (D600 series) Warship. Locomotives under construction or modification include two Class 52 Westerns (one green and one maroon). Also about to be started are a Metrovick Co-Bo, ex-NER EE1 and ex-NER ES1 No.26500. I have also included some pictures of other locomotives that may be of interest but will not normally run on this layout, such as the Yorkshire Class 02, Ruston & Hornsby Class 07, BR Class 09, BR Class 13, Clayton Class 17, Brush Class 60, BR Class 71, BR Class 76, Brush Class 89, the Fell Diesel, D0280 'Falcon', HS4000 'Kestrel' and the prototype HST.
The models are a variety of modified propriety or kit items and are built to OO gauge. This may seem an odd gauge, but I have rather a lot of OO gauge models. I didn't particularly want to spend the rest of my life converting them to EM or P4 gauge. In addition, it is anticipated that a few of the models will run on the Leamington & Warwick MRS OO Gauge Club layout Duxbury. However, most of the models have some form of compensation. The models also feature sprung buffers. Coupling the models is a different matter. Some trains run in fixed sets and therefore are permanently coupled between carriages/wagons. At the end of the train, Alex Jackson couplings are used to couple up to the locomotives. Coupling between sets varies according to the type of train. The BR Mk.I's for instance, use the Brassmasters Buckeye coupling, the Derby Lightweight DMU has a Brassmasters Screw Coupling. The mineral wagons have either Exactoscale three link or Instanter couplings.
